What is user variant

Content

Introduction

It describes the user variants and how it is connected to the path variant. It covers use cases if the user variant is edited.

Description

A user variant is a path variant that consists of subpaths from the origin to the destination, and the subpaths belong exclusively to it. Applicants can create an origin-to-destination as a complete stretch if all subpaths are combined into a single user variant. With this solution the system is "hacked", in the path variant calendar, the algorithm is"killed" to search for all possible combinations.

Create

The User variants cannot be created after the Open phase.

If a user variant is created it is marked with the following icon:

See if a dossier contains user variants:

Copy

Copying is the creation of new sub-paths in all territories by adding a new User Variant. The "Copy" button is located on the right side above the user variant timetable information:

The third user variant is created:

Edit

Editing of the user variant can be done in the path variant calendar, which refers to the full path instead of editing by territory and per subpath.

Press the "Edit calendar" button. It is located next to the "Copy" button.

Transferring days in the user variant will not cause calendar inconsistency.

See the below use cases when adding/removing days from the user variant.

Add days

Adding days to the user variant will not dissolve the user variant. See the below example when three days were added to the user variant 2.

Adding days applied to the whole user variant will not cause calendar inconsistency:

See the changes in the territory calendar view:

Delete days

Removing days from the user variant will not dissolve the user variant. See the below example when three days were removed from the user variant 2.

The removing days applied to the whole user variant will not cause calendar inconsistency:

See the changes on the territory view:

Add a subpath

The user variant is dissolved by creating a new sub-path and assigning days to the path variants that are removed from the user variant. It is not causing calendar inconsistency the path variants stay consistent.

Delete subpath

The user variant is dissolved by deleting a new sub-path and assigning days to a path variant that is removed from the user variant. The calendar becomes inconsistent and inconsistent visible in the path variants view.

Mark subpath as an alternative origin/destination

Rules

  • A sub-path that contains an alternative origin cannot be combined with the previous territory.
  • A sub-path that contains an alternative destination cannot be combined in the next territory.

The user variant is not dissolved by marking a sub-path as an alternative origin/destination and removing days that cannot be combined from the user variant but by assigning these "non-combinable" days as a path variant.

The path variant calendar becomes inconsistent.

In the above example, T2SP1 is marked as an alternative origin. The days of the T1SP1 have been removed from the user variant (days that cannot be combined), but the user variant is not fully removed. T2SP1 and T3SP1 still belong to the same user variant.

Negative border time

The user variant is dissolved by adding negative border time to the sub-path removing days that cannot be combined in the user variant but by assigning these "non-combinable" days as a path variant.

The negative border added to T2S1, the calendar consistency algorithm detected extra running days between T1 and T2. In this case, cannot connect all territories SP1 to one user variant because the path variants do not cover all territories.

Requested days cannot be fully offered

The user variant is dissolved if the requested days by the applicant cannot be fully offered by the IM and assigned days to the path variant that is removed from the user variant.

The calendar becomes inconsistent by removing days from T1SP1, therefore, the inconsistency algorithm detected extra running days on T2SP1 T3SP1

The days that cannot be offered are shown in the calendar view when comparing the applicant and the IM timetable.
